Main Street is Open! With the shorter days and a limited amount of trucks hauling, the paving of the final
four blocks of Main Street took a little longer than expected, with the final pavement completed on
Tuesday evening by Central Specialties. Following the completion of the paving on Main Street, a
temporary surface was paved on the north side of the intersection of Second Avenue near City Hall. This
surface will remain in place until next spring, when Second Avenue and multiple utilities will be replaced
from Main Street to Second Street North.
In addition to the paving, the last of the trees, irrigation, and grasses were installed along the project by
both Lakes Country Landscaping and Aqua Lawn Irrigation. The decorative streetlights that will be placed
downtown arrived late this week, and Parson’s Electric will begin placing the poles as soon as today.
On Thursday morning, a crew from Sir-Lines-A-Lot came to town to mark the centerline and fog/parking
line throughout town. Today, another crew will be arriving on site to begin grinding in the markings at
crosswalks, turn lanes, and other pavement messages.
R.L. Larson has started removing the temporary traffic control around the site, storing the material for
Interstate Traffic Signs to remove next week. In addition to signage removal, various cleanup has also
occurred around the project area from the activities throughout the summer. Please be careful driving
through Main Street and along the previous detour routes as the signage removal may be missed by drivers
that are used to traveling the area over the course of the past six months.
Upcoming Activities
Next week, Parson’s Electric will continue installing the new streetlights from Third Avenue East to Fourth
Avenue West. In addition to the new lighting, Interstate Traffic Signs will be installing signage outside of
the downtown area, working on new street signs and stop signs at the intersections along Main Street.
Additional signage will be installed following the completion of the streetlight installation, as some of the
signage will be attached to the new lights.
Site cleanup and addressing items on the correction and completion list will also be occurring over the last
weeks of fall weather, with final items addressed next spring during the reconstruction of Second Avenue
Northeast.
